Tennessee Sportsman Brings Homespun Knowledge and Customer Service Excellence to the Internet
A lifetime Tennessee resident, Wayne Smith knows the ins and outs; “I grew up camping, fishing and hunting and know just how rich the outdoor entertainment opportunities are in the Volunteer State.” Later on he got very enthused about bass fishing, off road dirt biking, boating and more.
While working as a career claims specialist, Wayne got to know the ins and outs of customer service and how important it is to consumers. The combination of local knowledge and professional expertise drove him to open up an internet retail shop geared towards helping internet shoppers make the most of the outdoor opportunities available and to be the one stop shop for people looking into camping, backpacking, boating, fishing, hiking gear or marine electronics.
Smith hopes to maintain his customer service focus while broadening the perspectives of internet shoppers on outdoor recreational opportunities. He remembers what it was like when just starting out exploring the boating, fishing and hiking options in East Tennessee and later in the Nashville area. He remembers community stores where people would come in not only to buy gear but to share stories about fishing trips and other adventures. Among other things, they would talk about where the fishing was good and what kind of bait worked on what kind of fish.
The internet has caused a lot of brick and mortar stores to be a thing of the past. Wayne Smith hopes to intertwine the value of aspects of the old school stores with the modern efficiencies of an internet driven business. On his blog, people can share their stories and talk about where they’re going and what they’re doing.
“It took a lot of hemming and hawing, but eventually I decided to do what I’ve always wanted to do and run an outdoor sporting goods store. I’ve always been interested and fascinated by the internet and the technologies that make it possible to conduct business with people around the world. Trying to find ways to use social media sites and forums to build the kind of communities that used to exist in mom and pop corner stores has been my passion. Don’t get me wrong; it’s still good to get out and away from the monitor. However, modern technology has allowed retailing to become very different from what it used to be, and I’m hoping to leverage the strengths of the internet and my experience and knowledge to get folks introduced to any number of activities the outdoors has to offer.”
