Getting more involved?
I recently moved to Houston, Tx from Idaho and would like to get involved with the outdoors but I do not know anyone or the area. Are there any free clubs or groups that could help me? My interest include:
Hunting, fishing, mtn. biking, camping, hiking, snowboarding, snowshoeing, backpacking, climbing, rafting, hot springs, and caving
The best way to locate such groups in any area is to go to the local outfitters shops. Check online or the yellow pages to find places that sell backpacking, skiing, hunting, fishing and camping gear, preferably small independent shops rather than the big chains (places like D1cks, Galyans or Dunhams won’t be much help). The salespeople there will usually be able to direct you to outing clubs.
Also MeetUp.com has interest groups in every city in the country. It is free to enroll and you can search for others who have the same interests. Here’s the link for the Houston area Meetup recreation groups (47 different ones!)
